Overview

The Views, nestled along Grampians Road in Halls Gap, offers a dining experience that harmonizes with the natural beauty surrounding it. Situated within a motel, this restaurant surprises visitors with its inviting atmosphere, generous portions, and attentive service. Its location provides remarkable vistas of the Grampians mountain range, enhancing any meal with a backdrop of wildlife and nature’s quiet charm.

The establishment caters well to a diverse audience, from couples looking for a cozy dinner to families and group events such as classic car club meet-ups. The space is clean, spacious, and wheelchair friendly, making it accessible and comfortable for all guests. Parking is convenient, and the setting away from the bustling town center provides a peaceful environment, perfect for relaxing over a meal.

The Views’ menu, though concise, covers comforting staples and hearty dishes. Pasta, pizzas, schnitzels, and rice dishes anchor the selection, with seafood and meats prepared thoughtfully. Notably, the kitchen’s culinary creativity shines through unexpected twists such as a vegetarian pizza with a sweet chili sauce base, adding a distinctive flavor that pleasantly surprises. The seafood, exemplified by creamy prawn fettuccine, is fresh and satisfying, especially on cooler nights when a rich, warming dish is welcome.

Service is warm and personal. Staff go the extra mile, whether accommodating last-minute diners after kitchen hours or crafting vegan dishes not listed on the menu. This level of hospitality combined with a cozy, intimate setting creates a memorable experience. While the kitchen’s size sometimes means slightly slower service, it never compromises the quality or the welcoming atmosphere.

Breakfasts are straightforward and satisfying, paired well with a continental buffet that adds variety. The restaurant’s drinks list is thoughtfully curated, although some choices might not appeal to every palate. The Views leans more toward hearty, unpretentious fare that fills you up rather than lavish presentation, which suits its rustic, nature-adjacent locale.

Overall, The Views is a restaurant punching above its weight with excellent food, genuine service, and remarkable surroundings. It’s a spot perfectly suited for travelers seeking hearty meals in a relaxed setting, families after a hearty feed before or after exploring the Grampians, and anyone wanting a welcoming dining escape with stunning views just outside Halls Gap.

We just had a wonderful dinner here with my boyfriend. When we arrived, the kitchen had already closed due to no bookings or walk-ins on a Saturday night — which is such a shame because both the food and service are absolutely amazing. Michael (who I believe is the manager) kindly asked the kitchen if they could still serve us, and thankfully they agreed. Honestly, we had read some mixed reviews beforehand and didn’t have high expectations ( that's why we didn't take any photos) — we were simply looking for the closest place to grab a meal, as we were staying nearby for two nights. But we were pleasantly surprised! We ordered the Vegetarian Pizza ($19.50) and the Creamy Prawn Fettuccine ($26), and both dishes were fantastic. The pizza was generously topped and, instead of a traditional tomato base, it used sweet chilli sauce, which surprisingly worked really well and added a delicious twist. The pasta was exactly what I was craving on a cold night — rich, creamy, flavourful and packed with fresh, huge prawns. The portions were very generous and definitely great value for money. The menu isn’t huge, but it has all the essentials: pasta, rice dishes, stir-fry noodles, schnitzels, pizzas, and more. The restaurant itself is clean, spacious, and comfortable. It’s really unfortunate that they don’t have more guests, especially considering the motel was fully booked. But if you’re looking for somewhere cozy with hearty, comforting food and excellent service, I would absolutely recommend this place!

Ordered the big breakfast. It wasn't big but it was nice... Very ordinary food presented well: one rasher bacon, one sausage, hash brown, beans, two eggs on a grilled piece of bread. The breakfast does come with the continental buffet- cereals, toast, fruit salad, yoghurt, juice, tea and coffee so the value is there. The restaurant does have great views of the mountains and wildlife. Not as fancy as it might be trying to be but a good place attached to the hotel.

We came here because nothing else appeared to be open in Halls Gap. A few kms out from town on the right, a long driveway leads you to the motel / restaurant. Watch out for the kangaroos as they are plentiful at dusk. So are the sulphur created cockatoos that perch on the buildings and in the trees with their iconic ‘squack’. The restaurant is a good size and had about 4 tables either guests. Between the four of us we ordered the lamb rack, the pork belly, the steak and a chicken parma. Not cheap, starting at $28 for the parma but the food was very good, the portion sizes generous and the food was prepared relatively quickly. Wine and beer list quite comprehensive. Wouldn’t have the house white - found it somewhat bland. Staff were good and very helpful and generous. Happy for us to split the bill. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking out the front. I’d certainly return again so explore more of the menu.

We went as a classic car club with over 40 people and this is a motel punching above its weight. The meals were delicious and prompt. The service and hospitality was fantastic. It is an old motel that is clean with magnificent views and management and staff cannot do enough for you. Terrific.

Really lovely meals, affordable prices, super helpful staff, great ambience and intimate location. The service can be a little slow, but that is due to there being only 1 person in the kitchen. The chef is lovely, so wonderfully helpful. I am vegan and she went out of her way to assist me and create meals off menu so that I had something to eat. The dinners are really good. The breakfast is a little meager - tasty, but you do not get much for your money (breakfast only, can not complain about the dinners at all). Would definitely go back here for dinner!
